Friendliness of the Lounge

Postby Merrybabe on Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:22 pm

I just wanted to say that I recently joined a fan forum for another show (which had better remain nameless to protect the grumpy.)

Anyway, I lurked for a while, like you do, then I said hello and begain to post. My first was a discussion about a particular episode in whch I made some comments as to how I thought the story could go. I then happened to mention that I disliked one of the characters.

Well. All hell broke loose. Didn't I know that people there were fans of this character? How could I dislike that person? How on earth could I suggest that the plot would go in that particular way?

It made me jolly glad to get back here where it's possible to be constructively critical of the show, no matter how much we love it, and where various opinions are welcomed and discussed with friendly open-mindedness. Thanks, guys.

Interesting! I'm not on any other TV show forum, but a LONG time ago, I got into an X-files thing where you played the characters out in other stories ... it was fun, and the people were lovely.

I've noticed in the Pros lounge how newcomers often comment on the friendliness, and I think that must be a reflection on the fact that (these days) lots of groups are not so open and friendly. What a pity, but what a great reflection on this group!
Now, you've got to think of a question that goes with the answer Nein, W.

I totally agree on the friendliness of this forum despite the diverging opinions, but when they are stated in a way that doesn't necessarily aim at hurting the others they are welcome and a source of reflection.

There is a well known group which I'm not going to name, not because I might be hated for stating the obvious since it has been the case for a couple of years now, which is linked to the subject, where the atmosphere was great till it stayed "by invite" only.

Then all of a sudden it became public domain, and the attitude has so much changed that I'm only staying for the sake of the info which can be gathered there.

It's thanks to members like yourself Merrybabe that this lounge is what it is. Everyone is always made welcome and opinions are always respected.
The knowledge never fails to amaze me and everyone always contributes with something interesting (except me on the motors section- yawn  )

I've also joined other forums in the past and although i've never really had a bad experience, i've never found a site as friendly as this one.
Thanks to Kevin and the other mods and members, here's to 2009

This is the friendliest place, by far, I've ever been associated with online. It's all down to the members and the mods---congratulations to all of us!

Stay happy and safe in 2009, folks.....and keep coming back to the Forum.

I am or have been a member of a few different fora in my time and I can confirm that this is by far the friendliest! On the other ones, I've always felt I have to keep my opinions (even the not-so- controversial ones) to myself to some degree, which is hardly a healthy atmosphere for a forum!

So thank you to the mods and all the members for making this a wonderful place to inhabit!

As a member of various fora- some of which I`ve been haunting for years now, I must say I have noticed what a friendly site this is, its one of the main things I noticed when I first started reading the threads and posts on here a few weeks ago.

I could give you names of god knows how many fora that are like war zones and although its exciting at first, the attitudes and pettiness of the regulars there soon becomes tiresome.
I`ve even resisted the urge to advertise this place to some of my friends who use those fora- they would be interested in a forum such as this one but I feel that they`ve been in online atmospheres of aggression for so long that they`d be unable to moderate themselves so I keep you all to myself.
I`m `Avin `Oops.

As a very new member of the lounge, having spent most of last year just viewing in as a guest, I have to agree that this place is very welcoming, humorous and friendly. What attracted me into joining the lounge, was that when reading the posts it felt like I was sitting chatting to people I recently met, who I found had a common interest (obsession?). A lovely way to spend an hour. :D

Ah that's good to hear.

I am proud of this Lounge. It's welcoming and there's room for everyone, whatever they want to talk about - be it their love for a particular character, or a more robust critique of the show. We're a credit to ourselves!

This is the only forum I joined, mainly due to lack of time, so I can't make comparisons. As the reason for joining a community should be the most pleasant one, where's the need for aggression or rude behaviour? This being triggered simply by disagreeing with someone is awful indeed. To let off steam, there're enough gyms providing punching balls... So glad I found the right mob
