Pretty sure that the general consensus was that it was Craven Cottage.

Someone said it was Griffin Park, Brentford, when it was mentioned before?

Definately Craven Cottage. You can tell by the depth of the goal which was determined by the size of the gap behind the goal and the terrace.
IE the tighter smaller grounds in the 60s and 70s like West Ham, QPR,Brentford, Luton, all had very shallow goals because of very little space behind the goals.
Fulham being a larger ground back then had the deeper type of goal.

I agree with Strides. In my view, the only “side” area of Fulham’s ground that could be used in the episode is the Riverside Terrace. From a few football grounds books that I have that contain old photos, there isn’t one with a roof/stand like that at Craven Cottage on the riverside. Apparently, the Riverside Terrace was not roofed until April 1972 (the Eric Miller stand). Even then, the roof was (and still is) completely different to that shown in the episode. The roof in the episode appears to be more of an old-fashioned roof completely different the current 1972 roof. I could be completely wrong, but this has been bugging me for some time. I have looked at lots of old photos of London football grounds and I am completely lost with this one.

In my opinion, Griffin Park was definitely not used in Ringer, and it was also not used in Golden Fleece. I’m pretty sure that Twickenham was used in Golden Fleece:

On the subject of football grounds, it’s a bit off the subject, but the ground featured at the end of the Porridge episode “Happy Release” was Loftus Road (as featured in I Want The Man) and not Elland Road as the episode made out:

After looking at the picture I think you are right. I can honestly say that whenever I have watched that episode, have lost count of how many times, I always presumed it to be Elland Road. It does look awfully like it but yes after closer inspection it is Loftus Road. Well, as they say, you learn something new everyday.

Can I suggest that any Leeds fan would be insulted by having Elland Road mistaken for Loftus Road. (and I'm not a Leeds fan)
Elland road is twice the size.

I have decided to cast my net further afield in the search for the location and figured that it could be a non league ground,in my humble opinion it just could have been Tooting And Mitcham F.C-not where they are now but the old Sandy Lane ground thats now modern houses.
I do remember standing there in the footsteps of our heroes and upon reflection it was very similar.

i cant find any really good smudges but here one

Dennis Waterman mentions it's Craven Cottage in the commentary on the DVD. This is an old Granada Plus forum chestnut! It's like being whisked back in time... :)

Hard to tell without seeing a smudge of the terrace behind the goal but the goal is the same shape as in Ringer so maybe a very good shout Strides.

The stadium used in Golden Fleece is 100% Twickenham Rugby Ground. Brentford has never had a green coloured grandstand of that size. The big debate on the footy ground used in Ringer is a puzzler. The goalposts are the same as Fulham's at that time and it does has a look of the away end at Fulham but was the terrace not concreted at that time? could it be White City?

What year was White City demolished ? Would've suggested Griffin Park myself, though not too sure now ??
